technically, do cats have beards?  granted, not a massive issue in the grand scheme of things (i would prioritise the classification on cereal as a soup over the cat/beard debate) but intriguing nonetheless.

beards on humans, however, are epic. a well groomed patch of facial fuzz provides warmth in the winter, sun-block in the summer, hides any extra chins/scars and of course, is tasty flavour-saving appendage for soups (or cereals) and other buttery treats.

personally, i have stuck with some designer stubble for years now – or at least, as long as i’ve been able to grow a decent beard – and now when the times comes to shave, i don’t recognise the stranger staring back at me. equally, i have never had the sheer balls to go full-on beard for one reason or another – mainly to maintain the status-quo within the work/life/looking like a hobo but still being smart enough for an office balance – but all that may be about to change.

maybe its me watching more tv programs on the discovery channel – like ax men, ice road truckers, log-jammin, etc. - but the beards on display in north america is staggering. combine that with the fact that “celebrities” now often appear at premiers of their latest movie sporting a full neck-full of grizzly awesomeness, and it’s a bit like the subliminal effect that photoshop is having on women at the make-up counter. i now feel that without a beard, i am less of a man.equally, seeing a dude who looks like he is eating a squirrel walk along the road often gets a remark along the lines of “wow, check out that guys epic beard!”

i want to embrace this magical wonder of human nature.

i want to grow a beard of sheer mind-blowingly-awesomeness that will be the blueprint for all other pow-beards before me.

i will grow a zz-top like beard and to hell with the stereotyping. my job title will (hopefully) still contain the word ‘manager’.

and i will see to it that cereal gets the classification it deserves.

with the impending anniversary of another birthday looming, i thought of the ‘brilliant’ idea of trying out a different diet and recording the results.

while there are people who will wax lyrical about the pros and cons of a healthy vegetarian/vegan diet, i love my maple bacon sandwich just too much to give a fig about what they had to say. let them eat rabbit food – i like to think that everything in moderation is the way forward.

that being said, i have started to notice a few more creeks in the joints of late, alcohol hits harder (as above – passing out in the lobby of a 5* hotel after a night of steins and pool) it takes a bit longer to recover from a hangover and i do seem to be turning in a grumpy old fart when arriving in certain situations – shouting at a pedal bin that had a broken pedal resulted in an expletive fuelled rant about what could be more useless in the world we live in. (hay-fever was the eventual winner)

so it brings me back to the opening paragraph – for no other reason to launch myself into the myriad of rules governing vegetarianism and vegan – im going to try out a new vegetarian diet for 1 month, then go even deeper into the rabbit hole with a vegan diet for another month.

ok it might not be the biggest step i’ve ever taken, although two months without any meat (i’m allowing fish into the vegetarian month as a slight ‘meat-buffer’ – and anyone claiming this is cheating can literally kiss my ass) could prove to be one of the hardest things i’ver done. and i’ve built IKEA flatpacks with just a knife and a penny before..

Surviving is one thing. You can get through, you can white-knuckle. You can do the bare minimum. But there comes a time where life stops rewarding potential. If you want to participate at a certain level in anything, you cannot just turn up and be respected.

ok that might be in bad taste as one probably shouldn’t joke about the end of the world, just in case it happens…although it won’t… but it might… but it wont, so never mind… happy new year etc etc and may all your christmases be white.

the main reason this blog has been sitting in cyberspace amongst the wealth of fusty porno sites without any updates is mainly due to apple and their blatant pirate-like ability to hornswaggle everyday people like myself into paying though every conceivable orifice to get something fixed – such as a graphics chip in my macbook pro.

as you can see from the lovely invoice above, days before celebrating christmas i was fortunate enough to get billed for £720.00 otherwise i was stuck without facebook forever. which is obviously, inconceivable.

good thing it included labor.

so what do you get when you combine a month driving from boulder to los angeles, a bunch of fairly average skiers and snowboarders, a few crates of (the now illegal) 4loko and some go-pro cameras?

the most eagle-eyed of those out there will see that the footage comes via ski pole – that’s because go pro cameras are amazingly prehensible – we also used berocca tubes (this idea is incredibly awesome as it serves as a hangover/filming took and is therefore invaluable to anyone in a ski resort – berocca go-pro handle©) meaning that i could actually take a break from the filming and get involved myself… mostly stacking it.

Having just got back from a mammoth and seriously intense time traveling across colorado, utah, arizona (for a bit), nevada (thank you vegas) and finally california – you may expect a lovely new edit to drop soon.

you would be correct. some very average tricks and probably more banter than style will be coming your way soon…

what it might not show will be the fact 4LOKO is pure carnage in a can (especially when you duct-tape them to your hands), the amount of pro-ho-ing we managed to do with simon dumont, justin dorey, michael clarke, tom wallisch, MFM, travis kennedy, tim mcchesney and randomly bear grylls, the fact that laying out LAX is the worst airport in the world – although madatory strip searching of scottish people is a brilliant thing and should be introduced everywhere – and what happened in vegas. which is a shame because i honestly can’t recall what happened in vegas other than 2 of us split the ass-seam on our charity shop suits..

so be patient, have a smoke and in the meantime blow your mind with the new brain farm edit. another 3 years in the making seems like it was worth it..

fuck yeah. the season is underway.

a month-long-shredtacular-jib-inspiring-lash-heavy-rodeo-stomping-month lies ahead; taking in colorado, utah and california. nothing more to be said. even stopped smoking in an effort to get fit an not instantly wilt as soon as i get off the runway, although more than likely will pass out tying my shoelaces as the effort to do everything a mile up will hit me like a ridiculous slap in the ‘you’re not in shape anymore’ face.

but so what? vegas baby, thank you. ill be with you soon. plus american chicks dig english accents.

so, the question is – should i spend my time running round the block, doing insane sit-ups and leg raises to get back to the heady days of athleticism when living in whistler – or (more likely) should i be practicing my best british gentleman accent and finding the right way to make bowler hats more steezy?

behave. plus, whats the point of pulling some blart when you pass out from the blood flow going to your helm anyway? that would not be the best way to uphold the monarchy.
